Bulls and Mustering

Like I said earlier, the boys finished mustering about 2 weeks ago and the last lot of cattle got trucked off yesterday to Roma. Troy thoroughly enjoyed himself. He got to catch some bulls and is riding a grey brumby mare that was caught off Phillip Creek. He really likes riding her except she isnt really fond of the chopper! He and Sandy are heading off to Brunette Downs with their horse to compete in the campdraft up there. He should have fun. The photos is off all the fellas coming back from a days mustering. From left to right we have, Alex, Pete, Brian, Sandy, Stephen, Troy and Lenny.

These are some of the mickey bulls, prior to mustering. Some of them got dummy bucked to see what they would be like as bucking bulls, but most of them got sent down to Roma. Some have stayed here. There are a few older bulls and fat cows going to Katherine Meat Works. Some of the mickey's that arent going to be kept for bucking are going as well.

And More Photos

Hannah wanted a Dora the Explorer cake for her birthday. She reckoned it was pretty good. This is her on her way to her birthday BBQ. She is wearing her new pink Wrangler cowgirl hat and new jeans. All she wanted was a pink hat just like Dad's. These 2 photos are of the girls riding Stormy the Poddy Calf. All Sharlette talks about is bucking out the bulls, but this is as close as she will get for quite a while.

This is the Stations Road Train. It is a 30+ year old Mack Air Start. They use it to cart cattle around the station.

The girls enjoying their easter treats. Amelia's was nearly as big as she was.

Some more photos (now I know how to do it)

This photo was taken at Bishops Dam at Dusk

Sharlette dressed up as in her version of a cowgirl, dad's boots, cowboy hat and a Dorothy tail.

These photos are of the girls on the way up to the NT. It was stinking hot!!!!

The picture of the cot is for Jillaine. Jilliane made Amelia a bumper and quilt set and she also did up the cot for me. She sanded it and stained it. Thanks heaps it looks really good.

Well we have been living in the Northern Territory now for 5 months and are absolutely loving it! The kids especially! We should have done this years ago. The people up here are some of the nicest I have ever met and most of them come from QLD. Troy and Sandy (boss) have just finished 1st round muster. They have sent nearly 3000 head of cattle off Phillip Creek down to the family's other property at Roma, QLD. Most of the cattle sent have been weaners. They used helicopters to muster the paddocks and when he is here, he land the chopper right beside the house. The girls love yelling out and waving to him as he is coming and going.

Hannah started preschool last week and absolutley loves it (no surprise there). She goes Monday to Thursday from 8 am - 11 am. It is a 50km trip from home to preschool so 100km return. With fuel been between $1.65 and $1.90, it is a pricey trip but definately worth it. She could have done school of the air but at least this way she can interact with other kids and make some friends. We are entitled to a subsidy from the NT government to help with the cost of running her back and forth so at least thats something.

We have big dramas with Sharlette though. All she wants to do is stay and play with the kids. There is a day care right next door to the preschool, so we might put Sharlette in there 1 or 2 days whilst Hannah is in school.

Amelia goes in for an operation on the 10th July to get the small cyst removed from her nose. It will be very difficult as she has to fast from the night before and for a kid who loves her food, she isnt going to like it!! We will probably stay in Alice Springs (4 hours away) for a week just to make sure she is alright. I don't want to be 500km away and she gets sick. She will only be in for a day all things going well. Anyway thats all from us up here, for now.
